Indie August Books

My newsletter takes a look at books where August plays a role either as

  • Part of the title
  • Name of author or character
  • Time of the story actions

After researching traditionally-published books that fit one of these criteria, I thought it would be fun to reach out to the indie writing community and see what books they had to offer.

Take a look below and maybe you'll discover a new read for the month!

Dog Days of August (Twelve Months of Romance-August) by Margaret Lake is 8th book in a women contemporary's fiction novella series (this length book is perfect for a lazy afternoon!).

All Jan wants to do is get her mother a puppy to help her get over her grief at the loss of her husband, Jan’s father. But when she gets to the shelter to pick up the girl puppy she had her heart set on, Kevin, a freak with a Mohawk and earring, is getting ready to walk away with her dog.

Jan is still fuming when she gets to work the next morning, and it doesn’t help that she’s expected to train a new employee; the very same freak who stole her dog.

Rinkside (Knockout Girl Book 4) by Natasja Eby is a contemporary romance scheduled for release on August 15 but is available for pre-order now at a price of only $1.00.

Cherry’s plan is simple—work at her parents’ arena for the summer, go to school for business in the fall. Everything is set.

That is, until she meets Richie.

Res-Q Tyler Stop by June McCrary Jacobs is a clean children's book, geared towards upper elementary, with action set during August.
Besides being available for purchase, Res-Q Tyler Stop is also available through the Kindle Unlimited program.

It's the summer of 1968 in Sonoma County, California, and eleven-year-old Weston Gregg and his nine-year-old sister, Wendy, are looking for fun things to do during their summer break from school. When they discover some abandoned rabbits, they hatch an idea to make a positive difference for animals and people in their small town of Tyler Stop.

Firmament: Radialloy by Grace Fay is the first book in a sci-fi young adult series with a main character named August. This first book is free.

The year is 2320. Andi Lloyd is content with her life as the assistant to her adoptive father, a starship doctor, but her secure world turns upside down when she begins uncovering secrets from her past. When her father mysteriously starts losing his mind, she finds that she can no longer count on him to guide or help her. With mutiny breaking out on the ship, and two factions desperate for a valuable secret she holds, she must race to help her father and herself before time runs out.

If you are looking for something for your tween or teenager to read, check out Chase Tinker and the House of Magic by Malia Ann Haberman. This book kicks off a series and is also free on Amazon! Not only does the series feature action in August, a minor character has the name Augusta which I think is close enough ;)

Join Chase Tinker and his family and friends for some wild and crazy supernatural escapades while living in a gigantic, 560 year old magical house where magic, adventure, excitement, and danger can be found around nearly every corner.

Root for Chase in his pursuit of a way to outwit, out-magic, and outmaneuver dangerous and wicked villains who are planning to destroy the Tinkers and get control of this incredible and unique house.

Let me know if you read one of these books!
